This project is the overall water supply project for the Kunyak area in Kipkelion District. The water projects which Friends of Kipkelion supported in 2011 (see other completed projects) will eventually feed into this larger project. The project involves the protection of three springs that will then provide the water supply for the communities in this area. It is estimated that this will serve up to 10,000 people in the immediate catchment area with capacity for expansion. The scheme is being built to allow for this future expansion by ensuring that the adequate sized piping is used.
The most recent phase of this project in 2012 involved the protection of the springs as well as the construction of a 100 cubic metre storage tank as the header tank for storage and distribution to the main water pipeline for the scheme. These constructions will all be fenced off when completed to ensure they are not damaged, especially by farm animals.
Progress to date
- Construction of the masonry tank has been completed.
- The protection of the springs has been achieved.
- Piping work – This work will be done in phases starting in 2015. The pipes will feed into the masonry tank.
Training phase – this will be done towards the completion of physical work.
